CSLF Technology Roadmap 2021 The Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) Technology Roadmap 2021 is an update of the 2017 version, based on reported progress and published documentation on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) activities between October 2017 and February 2021. The roadmap provides recommendations to ministers of the CSLF member countries, and their climate and energy policymakers, on technology developments that are required for CCUS to fulfill the CSLF mission to facilitate the development and deployment of CCS technologies via collaborative efforts that address key technical, economic, and environmental obstacles. 2017 CSLF Ministerial Communiqué In this communiqué, issued at the 7th Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum Ministerial Meeting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, ministers underscore the importance of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) to the global clean energy transition, noting that there is a critical need for CCUS in the power sector and key opportunities for CCUS to achieve deep carbon dioxide emissions reductions from process industries such as refineries, the chemical sector, and cement and steel production. White Paper on CCS in the Industrial Sector This paper was prepared for the June 2016 Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation Ministerial. Twenty countries plus the European Union have joined Mission Innovation (MI) to date and pledged to double clean energy research and development funding in 5 years. 16 of the 21 MI members listed carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a core technology within their individual baseline plans (source: Mission Innovation Country Book). 2015 CSLF Ministerial Communiqué

In this communiqué, issued at the 6th Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ministers underscore the importance of carbon capture and storage (CCS) to global climate change mitigation efforts. They note that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fifth Assessment Synthesis Report acknowledges that without CCS, the costs of climate change mitigation would increase by 138%, and that without CCS, limiting the global rise in temperature to less than 2°C may not be possible. Despite regulatory developments, the topic of liability continues to be considered by some CCS project developers, policy-makers and regulators as a critical issue and potential "show-stopper" for the technology’s deployment. This report, through policy and regulatory analysis as well as interviews with policy makers, regulators, lawyers, project proponents, and representatives from the insurance sector, seeks to challenge these views and make the case for a more commercially minded view of liability. World Energy Investment 2016

The IEA report World Energy Investment 2016 shows the electricity sector leading a broad reorientation of energy investment but warns more is needed to meet climate targets and address energy security concerns. Global energy investment was down 8% in 2015, with flows signalling move towards cleaner energy.
