Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) is one of the world’s largest facilities for testing and improving carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture. It started operating in May 2012 and has an annual capacity for handling up to 100,000 tons of CO₂. The project is owned by the Norwegian State (represented by Gassnova SF), Statoil, Shell, and Total. TCM currently tests CO₂ capture on two types of flue gases using two capture technologies: amine-based and chilled ammonia-based. In addition to flue gas from gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP), the catalytic cracker flue gas makes testing relevant to carbon capture and storage on coal-fired power plants.
