Georgia Firm Developing Advanced, Coal Technologies

Functionally Graded Cathodes for SOFC's - Georgia Tech Research Corporation, Atlanta, GA, has received $900,000 from DOE for a $1.15 million project to develop an understanding of the molecular transformations occurring at an SOFC cathode as molecular oxygen arrives from the gas phase, interacts with the cathode surface, and is eventually incorporated as an ionic species into the cathode surface and the bulk structure of the electrolyte.

Predicting Combustion Instability in Turbines - Georgia Tech Research Corporation, Atlanta, GA is developing a validated design tool that can predict flashback and combustion instability in lean premixed combustors operating on coal-derived, high-hydrogen fuels. DOE is funding $600,000 of this $800,000 project.
