DOE Releases Final EIS for Western Greenbrier Co-Generation Demonstration Project

MORE INFO
Washington, D. C.
- The U.S. Department of Energy has issued its final Environmental Impact Statement for the Western Greenbrier Co-Generation Project, a 75-megawatt plant to be fueled by a 4 million ton refuse site at Anjean, WV.  Selected in the initial round of the Clean Coal Power Initiative in 2003, the plant will also produce steam for industrial use and district heating.  Integrated into the power facility will be a technology to convert ash from the boiler for structural materials. The facility is expected to serve as the "anchor tenant" for a new "Eco-Park." The Energy Department's share of the $215 million project is $107 million.
