Bilateral Agreements
Memorandum of Understanding Between the Department of Energy of the United States of America and the Royal Ministry of Petroleum and Energy of the United Kingdom of Norway on Collaboration in the Field of Energy Research, Development and Demonstration
The purpose of this MOU is to further develop cooperation in the promotion of scientific and technological activities in a broad range of energy fields, including:
- Fossil energy, including carbon sequestration, hydrogen and clean fuels, and new energy technologies;
- Energy efficiency; and
- Renewable energy.
The Office of Sequestration, Hydrogen and Clean Fuels within the Office of Fossil Energy has been actively involved in meetings and workshops under the bilateral agreements. Current projects under the MOU include:
- Zero Emissions Norwegian Gas Project
- Advanced Non-Polluting Gas Generator
- 70 Megawatt Enhanced Oil Recovery Project
- Sea Floor Gravity Survey at Sleipner
Ongoing Bilateral Energy Dialogue on Oil and Gas Technology
The purpose of the dialogue is to continue engagements with the Norwegians, including exchanges concerning oil and gas technologies.
A U.S.-Norway Oil and Gas Roundtable was held in May 2004. Norway's chief areas of interest are offshore technologies, liquefied natural gas, and deep drilling. DOE used this opportunity to introduce Norway's Demo 2000 pogram to the DeepStar program, which is comprised of several U.S. and international firms working in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Participants agreed to look for opportunities to work together on various oil and gas technologies. The United States also agreed to keep Norway informed on the DOE's LNG safety studies.
