DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory Details Accomplishments

Annual Report Cites Public/Private Partnerships as Key to Research and Technology Transfer Success

Morgantown, W.Va. — The Office of Fossil Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, the research arm of the Department of Energy's fossil energy program, has released its annual Accomplishments Report highlighting advances in fossil-energy-related research, technological breakthroughs, and the successful transfer of technology to resolve the environmental, supply, and reliability constraints of producing and using fossil resources.

MORE INFO
The bulk of the accomplishments involve coal, oil, and natural gas, since fossil resources are the heart of NETL’s mission. The report also presents achievements in energy information, and energy efficiency and renewable energy—and it includes awards and recognition in pursuit of these goals.

Success stories in the report include clean coal demonstration projects, commercial fuel cell plants, technologies to reduce emissions from fossil-fuel-fired power plants, improved drilling technology, and advances in simulation and modeling to assist the development of advanced energy systems.

In addition to cutting-edge energy research conducted onsite, NETL’s project portfolio includes research and technology development conducted through partnerships, cooperative research and development agreements, financial assistance, and contractual arrangements with the private sector. This creates an essential partnership to meet the laboratory’s ultimate goal: successful commercialization of advanced technologies to benefit the American people.
